Slipper day Review
Import Post Impressionist makes a huge impact on Oz debut
We kicked off with top rated Electrica rated at $4.2 winning the 1st at $5, he won by 3 running a huge new career peak of 103/98. His XR's just keep improving the time in and it looks like the penny has finally dropped.
R2 was the G3 Manion over 2400m and my advice was to stay out with the import Post Impressionist heading the markets but i should of trusted my eyes, I put him up at $3.30 and for those that played he was a nice overlay winner at $3.90. He was staggeringly impressive rating 114/116 in a 3 length win and on that has the Sydney Cup at his mercy. I suggested VRC Derby winner Manzoice was on the way back after 100/107 last time out. He ran 2nd franking that SR 100 with a gallant Almania 3rd was SR 99. The locals just a class below this G1 performed international

R3 was the G3 Epona for the girls and it was 3 top picks on the bounce with the $2.90 rated Osmose $3.8 into $2.90 on Race day , franking his XR 101 to end last campaign and his WR100 resuming with 102/101. Thaassophile was an honest 2nd with 100/99 whilst 3rd placed Rivaport continued her best campaign to date franking her XR 102 3 back with 99/101 whilst Little Mix was best home in the race for 4th rating 97/102 and she will be primed to peak next start stepping in trip.

It was 4 top picks on the bounce when Gold Miner Bank Maur rated $3.20 was $5.50 into $4.40 to win the 4th with 89/84 well down on expectations in a slowly run affair.
It was a small field in the 5th the G1 Ranvet and again we had 2 imports that dominated the market. They didn't go hard in the small field and it was another top pick with Via Sistina settling last in a slowly run race but showed a dominant turn of foot rating. 89/106 (+17). I had her $3.20 and she was smashed in betting on race day being $4 to $2.30. The other import Place Du Carrousel chased her her home but was no match rating 84/99 again the +15 said plenty. 3rd placed was another import Buckeroo with 84/100 also strong late. Sadly again the locals looked 2nd rate.
We made it 6 top picks on the bounce with Riff Rocket an outstanding winner of the G1 Rosehill Guineas. They just went at an even clip and out $2.20 rated top pick and 108 horse lived right up to that with 98/108 home in 22.2 winning at $2.70. Bring on the Derby. I wasn't convinced that runner up Ceolwulf wanted the step up in trip but he showed he has come back stronger with 95/103. Tom Kitten was a little disappointing back in 6th with 92/100

R7 was the G1 George Ryder and it lived right up to my expectations. The winner was equal 4th pick Veight who I rated $10.6 and he was smashed in the betting during the day winning at $7.40. I had him a 104 horse going in and his run was neg split in nature with 106/100 right on the money. Rapidly improving mare Lady Laguna was clearly best home with 105/105 suggesting her G1 win prior with 113/113 was no fluke. She has gone a whole new level.. Militarize made it 3yo's 1st and 3rd with another typically honest effort 102/103 tells us his day in the sun is coming. These 3 were dominant in the ratings through this race. Think About It was weak with 98/89 whilst Amenable and Kovalica were both well down on expectations.
I was right about the Fav being over bet in the G1 Golden Slipper when Storm Boy left his chances after a tardy beginning but 96/86 telling us its paddock time not that that worried gai as he had the winner Lady of Camelot at $7.5 and she was $8 into $6.50 with 102/193 franking her SR 101 2 back. Victorian Coleman was a bold 2nd with 101/93 Straight Charge didn't get a strong 1200m as expected whilst Switzerland went to the well once too often and didnt fire a shot.
R9 was the G1 Galaxy and our 1 x3 Gold Miner Passive Aggressive didnt repeat the dose of his slick 1st up win but it was the runner up that day in Zapateo who was the surprise winner, 107/107 at his previous was flanked with 112/107 edging out an unlucky Sunshine In Paris who is something a bit special. She was first up and this not her ideal trip but she had showed her quality with her last 2 XR's being 114. 111/08 here says get on me next start, She is the absolute top draw and will be better suited with a step up in trip.Front Page who has been good to us many time ran the race of his l ife when 3rd rating 111/102 Asfoora got back on track with an SR 108. Private Eye has really gone off the boil and didnt fire a shot, neither did Aft Cabin.
HTF - Sunshine in Paris
The last was the G3 Birthday Card and I looked long and hard at the winner Chain of Command who has been good to us over the years but coming off off a couple of duck eggs around a spell and with best form 12 months ago he was tough to find .102/100 had him right back to best and i am so happy for Pete Moody to get him back on track. runner up in 4yo Tashi has gone to a new level this time in following XR's of 100 and 103 with a rock solid 99/98 here
