HK International Jockeys Challenge Night
With all the mouth watering G1 action of International day ahead of us Sunday we wet our appetite with International jockeys challenge night tomorrow night and what a line up of talented horse men we have, of the 4 HK hoops only one is a local and that's Vinnie Ho, currently 3rd on the Premiership with 20 wins at 12%, Aussies Zac Purton and Hugh Bowman sit one 2 with ZP 20 wins clear on 44 at a staggering 23%, HB has 24 wins at 15%. The other representing HK is Karis Teetan, a Mauritian who gained his notoriety in South Africa, he is 4th on the table with 15 wins at 9%. James McDonald whom you can tell is the next heir apparent for HK has been really testing the waters there this season having had 40 rides for 7 wins at an ultra impressive 18%. I mean if you were one of the best hoops in the world why would you want to ride in HK, 2 meetings a week, 6 weeks off a year, life at a pace that is sustainable, unlike Australia that never close, great for gambling turnover but not so for participant health and well being. Nice to see British Aussie hoopette Rachel King here again, she came 3rd in the challenge last year. The divine feminine is also represented by another Pom in Holly Doyle who was the first woman to ride 5 winners on a day, she has been in the last 4 Jockeys challenge, finishing runner up in 2020 and 2021. We also British born 2 time winner of the IJC Ryan Moore, he had 15 rides in Hk last season and rode at 13% which is highly competitive. We see Norwegian born William Buick, who won the British flay premiership in 22 and 23 and has ridden 108 G1 winners all over the world. I am looking forward to seeing 7 time and still reigning Irish Champion hoop Colin Keane who hasn't been here since 2018 and he rode 2 winners at 25% then and he has won 5 titles since. He really adds something this year. We also get Yuga Kawada from Japan who has amassed over 2000m wins in Japan and one of of only a handful of jockey6s to win all 5 Japanese Classics but was winless in all 8 HK rides last season. To round out this crack field of hoops and hoopettes is Frenchmen Mickael Barzalona, who is Godolphins French number 1, he had 21 rides last season for 1 win at 4.8%.
The thing I love about this series it takes stable riders or regular riders out of the picture and drops a lovely dose of chaos theory. The series is run over 4 races Wednesday Night where $6.7 Million is Prizemoney is offered, the International Jockeys Challenge races are R4, R5, R7 and R8 with 12 points to winner, 6 for 2nd and 4 for 3rd in each race with the rider with the best total walking away with $600K.

Triple Peakers
Further to what i wrote in this recent article https://www.horsetorque.net/australia/articles/November-2024/peakers-double-peakers-and-triple-peakers did any of you note the $3 rated Best Bet on Sunday Cheerful World in R2 who luckily never got near my price starting $2.80. He was at start 4 coming SR's of 76 81 and 84, with XR's at the same time of 74 79 and 89. That last rating of 84/89 was a double peak in itself. In the past I would have probably taken unders thinking the horse was certain to find best peaking 3rd up, in the past I could of given the horse 89 and ended up being on it. As if the universe has been listening and confirms our chain of thought on knowing when to fold 'em. This guy was beaten 5 lengths rating 67/69. I noted the money move for debutant The Boom Box in my mailout, he was $9.5 into $7.10 at that stage and into $5 by the jump, and that XR 98 was +10 and the smart money took the chocolates again.
