Firing up in the new season with great overs

Last weekend at Ruakaka:

DOUBLE TAKE won by 1.5 lengths, was available at $6.00 after being marked at 1.90.

JOHNNY RONDO: Marked at 3.30, won well at $3.80.

QUARTZ QUEEN: Marked at 4.20, won paying $6.20.

At Riccarton:

JAY BEE GEE: Recommended outlay, won at a fixed price of $12.00+.

HARMONIOUS: Bolted-up in the last race, rated at 3.70, closing at $4.80.

VICTOR ROUGE and TONIA’S DRAGON: Strong play for the winner and quinella paid $13.50.

This weekend's analysis

Each Saturday, all New Zealand races are previewed and available on HorseTorque NZ with full rated prices attached.

This week marks the third day of the carnival at Riccarton, and several winners from last week are back in contention. The burning question is, which horses are best equipped to replicate their success?

VICTOR ROUGE (rated 3.8) in Race 3 looks well-placed to deliver another strong performance. With a proven track record and ideal conditions, this horse is poised for another win.

With potential map favours, JAY BEE GEE (rated 2.5) might just score again. His Winter Cup win last week at Riccarton showcased his ability, and with a map to suit, he’s the horse to beat again even given the weight wings against him.

At Te Rapa AGERA (rated 2.4) can win Race 7. The Tony Pike-trained horse presents as one of the better 'overs' of the day. AGERA offers Australian jockey Matt Cartwright a big chance to make his mark early in Aotearoa.
