G1 Epsom- Metrop Day Review

Zardozi is Caulfield Cup bound after 115/116 when a bold 2nd

We lost Tommy Hooligan in the 1st leaving it 4 equal top and it $7.20 the field we had $10 winner State Of America rated at $9 but he was only confirmed XR 93 last time in and we got 110/114, I mean, perhaps first use of track but he did have 95/104 in a win same T&D last November. He had 2 lengths on lightly raced 4yo Flying Bandit who had won 2 of 5 previously and peaked here 3rd up having first run at 9 furlongs and his 101/107 puts him straight in the BB Extreme Freedom 101 and Agita 102 both get big ticks the rest all more than 5 lengths off the winner.

Nice work by Marvin to rate $8 winner of the breeders King Kirk at $5.50 and 95/89 was a nice first trip to the races. Runner Up Temptuous 94/88 North England 94/83

Again nice work by Marvin having filly Bel Merci on top in the Gimcrack but the girls were much slower with 91/82 Runner up Ole Kirk  only 85/76. there are better girls in the barn somewhere.

Josh Parr just had no luck on Just Party after looking to get the run of the race. We had him $2.20  based on a PR of 91 and we got 93/88 when a luckless 4th. He will make amends for us.

Now you know why I neve make certain assessments about runners until I have seen them at least 5 times and I was first to think Swift Falcon was unders despite 2 wins and a 2nd from 3 starts. Well the money just kept coming and he has rated 105/102 and we see that big 10 point jump I often talk about. Pleasure Artist was VG at start 3 with 96/95. The winner could be pretty smart.

We expected 94 from top pick Chica Mojito after his SR 97 first up and he has improved again with 100/93 when 2nd. We had $11 winner St Lawrence at $10.90, he was confirmed 102 this year and 102/98 was clearly the run of the race. They all did neg split Riazin  98/89 Floating 96/92

With the $1.60 Fav out and only a field of 6 going around in the G1 Flight my advice was to stay out and the money just kept coming for Lady Shenandoah Her G3 win resuming with 90/95 was a new peak XR suggesting she had come on and she was dominant here winning by 3 rating 103/102 runner up Harlem Queen  90/89 and Snow in May 89/90. Its all about the winner.

We only had 7 go around in the G2 Premiere and this led toa slow speed that caused the upset. We dodged Giga Kick again who rated  95/96. As I said to a mate on Saturday morning 'gone!' Bella Nippotina looked disappointing on face value but home 21.8 in 98/100. the winner Airman was another in a recent string string of horses recapturing form from over 12 months previous he had 103/105 in a 1200m Sept last year at start 7. Nothing near that until todays 99/100. Mazu is nothing but honest with 98/98. Just remember he goes to another level on heavy tracks. Last years Everest winner Think About It was awful with 89/92. Funny old race.

The Metrop saw our top pick Gold miner Zardozi get backed from $10 to $7, sit 3 wide the trip and go down fighting and even had a protest dismissed rating a huge 115/116 and note she rated XR 112 in winning last Spring VRC Oaks. She is Caulfield Cup bound as is the winner and 2nd pick in import Land legend who had 114/108 winning on oz debut with 115/117. The had 3.5 lengths on Unusual Legacy who was an easy bullet dodged with 100/103 still good for him a restricted class galloper. Note Buckeroo is the current Caulfield Cup fav with trip unknown.

$4.50 top pick Ceolwulf was $7 into $4 before a big win in the G1 Epsom, he was coming in off 114/124 and 107/109 here dropping back from the 2000m to the mile was excellent. He is in 6 key Spring futures markets the $10.10 rated Tom Kitten ran 2nd at 412, we expected 101 and got 102/101. Royal patronage 99/92 struggled late giving weight to so many but did a sound job to hang on for 3rd.

We rounded out a big day with another top pick in the $3.40 rated Ostraka, we were looking for 100 and got 96/98, we found the Quinella in top2 with Moravia ratign95/94, we dodged Briasa who had a tough run  with 94/96 and the eye catcher was Port Lockroy, home 211.8 for 95/98.
