Caulfield Cup Day - Review

How do you rate 113/122 and not win a Caulfield Cup

We got off to a flyer with $2.7 rated Gold Miner GETAFIX winning after another Magic Man peach. My Comment " he got out to 1400m 2 back and caught the eye with +17 and followed that with 2nd  rating 92/92 both against the older horses. Back to own age and the Magic Man jumps on. He is the Gold Miner at $4.20." He was $6 into $4.80 late after money came for the bad value SUGAR COAT:. Nothing better than a value winner even better when you avoid the Fav. 100/97 was a new peak for the winner. 97/97 was a new peak for Supernima but a nice example of what I have been writing about in that his SR 84 on debut was a raw 93 so the 97 isnt such a surprise, his Xr was 9 better than the 3rd placed horse

I said to sit out of the Listed Gothic with the 2 Favs light, the race was won by $11 rated Lofty Arch who was $13 to $9.5o on the day 99/97 was a nice step for him and I told you the $27 was silly value for the $11 rated  Lovelycut coming off that XR 105 to end debut campaign. 97/101 was the run of the race and XR was 10 better than the 3rd placed Stolli Bolli

R3 was the old G3 Normin Robinson and Politely Dun came out in the morning and Red Aces at the barrier and we were left with 6 and they couldn't of gone slower with Kingofwallstreet rating 82/91, runner up China Sea Xr 93 and the tempo and shape didnt allow Keenland to show his ability , he wa s3rd Xr 90 3 lengths ahead of the rest.

R4 was the 2000m Ethereal for the fillies and Too darn Discreet did a huge job rising in W&D off a neg split run and still won showing plenty of grit 98/100 a new peak for her with Jenni's meadow best home with 97/100. Femminele XR 97 Inevitable Truth Xr 95 and a disappointing Hurry Curry XR 94 all get ticks.

Something clearly amiss with Isthmus in the Listed Ainghi for the  mares, 85/77 was nothing near ability the winner was 2nd pick Niance who smashed the clock with SR 112 his best at start 9, had shown promise with that Xr 104 3 back. Looks to be furnishing into a nice type. I told you Runner up Pondalowie had smashed the clock with raw 114 at BGO and he produced 111/109 here and straight into the BB. His Xr was 14 better than the 3rd placed horse

R6 was the 1000 Guineas Prelude and top pick Geegees Mistruth was unders by the jumps and ran 3rd and up in W&D syndrome claims another Fav. 90/88 suggests back to 1200m for mine. Winner Too Darn Lizzie only had Xr 91 as did runner up Zeitung. I dont think the 1000 Guineas winner is here.

R7 Top pick and 1 x 3 Rey Magnerio charged at the line for 2nd franking his 106/107 last start with 108/108, he has been good to us and we aint giving up now Winner was 2nd pick Estriella who scooted over the 1000m in 108 /104 and did a great job to hold off the runner up as she was giving him 6kg. I know one client had a big 1 x 3 play on Spacewalk and the Magic Man, it ran 3rd never not looking like missing the podium and he made 50% on his money. 104/105 was more than honest and they had 2 lengths on the others.

R8 was the G2 Tristarc and the winner Lady In pink was hard to find she had Xr 92 behind the likes of runners up Revolutionary Miss' 93 and more so 3rd placed BB'r Miss Aria and her Xr 104. Not sure  where 94/106 came for the winner, Xr 102 good from runner up, miss Aria again good through line with Xr 102, Mollyknickers also gets a tick with XR 103 whilst  top pick Skybird 78/94 was poor, rider said tempo against and stewards found nothing.

R9 was the Cup and how does value top pick Buckeroo off SR114 then Xr 116 rate 113/122 and get beat ?! . The winner Duke De Sessa who did have  Xr 109 and 111 early last Spring has produced 118/117 to win. i am so happy for Harry Coffey one of the good guys. They had 6 lengths on 3rd land Legend who had 93/94

R10 was the G3 Moonga and top2  Pinstriped Xr 87 and Gentleman Roy  Xr 76 were both most disappointing. The $14 winner Mighty Ulysses was a lightly raced import resuming he had XR 110 in debut stanza at a mile but did need one but no doubt I under rated him runner up Buffalo River was any old price and showed his love off CFD with 93/87.

On to Geelong Cup on Wednesday and Cox Plate weekend

and we will be back in Oz for that, providing they let me back in the country
